Frequently Asked Questions

System Testing.
Why is the Windows Logo Program important?
The Windows Logo Program ensures that product meets WHQL compatibility requirements
for Windows. Products that have been tested can be expected to work well with Windows
and give customers a better experience. Testing your products drastically helps
reduce costs (support and product returns), verifies the quality of your hardware
reduces and time to market.
How much does it cost?
Our tests differ in price range based on product type and associated logo requirements.
Generally a full test runs from about €995 for just getting a certificate for your
driver and up to €4500 for Datacenter/cluster testing.
Who is using Craiton’s hardware testing services?
All System Builders and Device Manufacturers and Resellers go through a validation
process prior to commercial release. During this validation process, the Windows
Logo testing can be performed to certify your products for the logo. Craiton performs
these tests.
Does Craiton perform other services?
Our company’s services are focused entirely around Windows Logo testing, both for
hardware and software. Additionally, Craiton can be contacted to help you design
your hardware or software for success for the Windows Logo. Craiton also provides
Device Quality Assessment services for resellers as a purchase decision-support
tool.
Can we use the Windows Logo after you have successfully tested our product?
Craiton will test your product to prepare for a successful submission. After Craiton
has tested your product you may submit our testing results to Microsoft. Microsoft
will examine the results and most likely permit you to use the Windows logo. Craiton
can not guarantee that you will get the logo based on our testing.
What happens when a test fails?
If there are any failures during testing, we continue running all the tests to completion.
This will speed up the logo process because additional failures can be identified
sooner. We will try to resolve the problem(s) with the goal of preventing failures
in the final test results. In the test conclusions report that we send you, all
failures will be listed and addressed with information on how to resolve them.
How long does the testing take?
Test duration depends on the type of product and whether there are failures that
need to be addressed. System tests generally never take more than two weeks, device
and software tests not more than one week.
What happens after testing?
The results of the test are compiled by the DTM test tools and communicated to you
via e-mail. This wrap-up package includes the log files required for a successful
submission. You can submit the package to Microsoft Winqual(Winqual). If your product
qualifies for the logo, Microsoft will post your product on the Logo'd Product List
and send you the logo artwork. You can then include the logo on your marketing materials.
Is the validation a controlled process?
The validation process is a controlled process from beginning to end. The process
is predetermined by industry standards and protocols and defined by industry leaders.
All requirements tests are performed using the Driver Test Manager, a kit built
by Microsoft. For more information about the DTM, click here.

How can your services be so inexpensive?
We keep our prices realistic and uninflated. If you pay more then you are paying
too much!
Why are your services so expensive?
If you can find a testing company that will do it for less, show us a quote and
we will beat it. Please bear in mind that hardware requirements are constantly changing.
We must invest in much hardware to keep our library up to date. If you calculate
the actual costs of doing the testing in house, you will most likely find our pricing
very reasonable.
Is there any special equipment required?
Yes, Depending on the test type to be performed CraitonTesting performs the tests
with different test equipment and supports various test bench configurations. Line
testers, Spectrophotometers, Audio Precision analyzer to name a few. Additionally,
we run internal software to help us guide the whole testing process internally and
to ease the communication towards the customer. We keep our customers updated about
our progress constantly.
My company is located outside of Europe. Can you still help us?
Absolutely. But if you are in New Zealand we might be sleeping while you are working!
Other than that, we will work with you in the same way as with our European and
Middle East customers.
Have you heard about those new majiggiemos?
Do they need to be tested?
